Seed phrase hygiene

Your seed phrase should live somewhere boring: written on paper, or better, stamped into metal, then stored somewhere only you can find it. Never a screenshot. Never a note in your cloud drive. Never typed into a text file "just for now." Anything connected to the internet is a place that phrase can eventually leak from.

Phishing sites love to ask you to "restore your wallet" or "verify" it by entering your seed phrase into a box. That box sends your words straight to a stranger. Legitimate wallet software only ever asks for your seed phrase in one situation: when you, on purpose, choose to restore a wallet you already own onto a new device.

If a prompt appears out of nowhere asking for those words, the answer is no, every time. Close the tab, keep the paper, keep the coins.
